It all started with the 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympics. Ziti came up with the idea of cooking dinner every single night of the Olympics. However, we were not to cook ordinary dinners. We were to cook a meal from a different country every evening.
Sounds challenging, right? Yep…it is. Is it fun? Yes sir!
Welcome to Day #1 of our Olympics Cooking! We decided that Greece would get the honors of being our first meal since it was the birth place of the Olympics.
Tonight we ate Greek Salad and Gyro Burritos. What?! Burritos you say? But that’s not Greek! Yes, I know! The recipe is a burrito recipe but I was hoping to sub those tortillas for pitas. Well guess what I saw when I went to the grocery store today?
Is the entire town inhaling Pitas tonight?? So I am sad to say that I had to settle for the silly tortillas.
This meal took me far longer to cook than I had anticipated. There was a whole lot of cutting of the veggies involved. And mixing of interesting ingredients such as cinnamon and onion powder…together?! It was yummy though! The Gyro Burritos tasted like real Gyros and the Greek Salad with the home made dressing was good.
I am hoping to be able to show off every meal every day here at good old Mama Spaghetti. You never know what crazy stuff we may eat. Fish Soup, anyone??
